Guntersville Lake
The lakefront views at Honeycomb Campground are something to behold. We arrived midday Monday to a quiet little campground with a few year-rounders around us but nobody in the waterfront spots. Come weekend the waterfront spots fill up but during the week we had the best views. All of the staff and all the year-rounders we had near us were very nice and excited to see the bus. The spot was mostly level and even had a ledge behind us that lined up perfectly with our deck for easy motorcycle access.
US Space and Rocket Center
A testament to US ambition and achievement; the US Space and Rocket center has awe inspiring views. We got to see the life-sized prototypes of the Saturn V, Gemini and Mercury cockpits, and we got to talk to the staff about the different trials astronauts had to go through.
Cathedral Caverns
Really well commercialized cave tours. Cathedral Caverns offers a caving experience without… caving. The state spent 13 years putting together a safe walkable path and the result is a pretty awesome experience. Ivy took us on the tour, it took about an hour and we learned quite about about the caves and the 1812 earthquake. It’s a beautiful motorcycle ride out and if you can withstand the Alabama fans, it is worth the trip.
Brahan Springs Disc Golf
Selfishly, I dragged Maddie off to see one of the oldest disc golf courses in the country. Brahan Springs in Huntsville is a beautiful and technical short course. Hit your lines and you’ll have birdie chances, miss them and you’re scrambling from a fairway over (or two if you’re me). It’s always packed so be prepared to wait or join a card but if you like tree courses Brahan is a good one.
Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum
Okay, I know this is a touristy list but hear me out. If you’re into anything that goes vroom, go to Barber Motorsports. The day we went they had a Porsche class doing trials for the class 4 racing license. We got to walk out on the bridge with a glass floor and watch people drive Porsches way faster than we would ever drive them. On top of that they have thousands of motorcycles and cars. From a 1906 FN Light Four to a 2008 Ford GT, they have every type of bike and car you could think of. It’s almost too much to take in with only one viewing. We spent 2 hours there and honestly we probably missed more on the last two floors than we saw from sheer shiny overload.
HD Farms
In only their 3rd week of Harvest Hosting, Henry and Paula have a great set up going on their farm. They have a 3 mile trail along the Choccolocco Creek that they can park you along if you have the ability to boondock. They also have 30amp hookups available. We can’t wait to make their suggested Lamb Meatball recipe sometime this week.
